A shop-owner had 80 similar watches for sale at \$216 each.He has made a profit of 25%.After selling 65 of the watchs, he reduced the selling price to \$180 each and sold all the remaining watches at this price. Find the profit percentage he would make on the whole transaction.

Rating

(1) The cost of each DVD recorder is \$80000/50 = \$1600

The marked selling price = \$1600 * (1 + 25%) = \$2000

Total sales for 35 recorders = 35 * \$2000 = \$70000

The selling price of the remaining (50 - 35) = 15 recorders is

\$2000 * 30% = \$600

Total sales for these 15 recorders = 15 * \$600 = \$9000

Therefore total sales = 70000 + 9000 = \$79000

Loss = \$80000 - \$79000 = \$1000

Loss percentage = 1000/80000 * 100% = 1.25%

(2) Since the marked price of \$216 has 25% profit, the cost of the watch is

\$216 / (1 + 25%)

= \$172.8

Total cost of 80 watches = 80 * \$172.8 = \$13,824

Sales of all 80 watches = 65 * \$216 + 15 * \$180 = \$16,740

Profit = 16740 - 13824 = \$2916

Profit percentage = 2916 / 13824 * 100% = 21 & 3/32 %
