Taiwan is located on Planet Earth in the Sol star system. It is a small island that claims several nearby islands as part of its governmental administrative complex, and (usually) effectively delivers many services to people in its domain. It claims to be democratic, and is as close to democratic as most countries can get without complete anarchy. It is always on the edge of it! But most people are resigned to constant change here and don't really expect much if they can not do it themselves. Thus it is a pleasant, safe, happy place to be, so long as you are willing to accept the adage, if you can't do it yourself... don't expect it to be done exactly right- but quite often they are close enough to right to get the job done!
--It's safe- Except for all the missiles pointed at it by aggressive neigboring states with nationalistic overabundance methods of social control... and Taiwan's overly aggressive automobile/truck drivers. Sometimes, if you are member of a local political party, things can get hurty, but thats between the local pols, so far, anyways. The fashion of the 'wrestlemania politician' men may be spreading to Korea and even some certain Western countries have pro-wrestlers and boxers posing as politicians... Taiwan! World LEADER!
It is loosely bordered by China to the west, the Phillipines to the south, and Japan to the north, and the pacific ocean to the east. To the South West of Taiwan is the country of VietNam and Laos, beyond that is Cambodia and Thailand, then Burma (or Myanmar) and just beyond that mess is Bangladesh and India. Lots of fun! Of course that isnt really that close, but for some reason Taiwan gets lumped in with them.
If you travelled REALLY far South EAST of Taiwan you could visit some other interesting island archipalegos too. Eventually you would slowly get near Australia! Many Maori in New Zealand and even many Hawaiians believe their ancestors originated from the island tribes of Taiwan overpopulating, warring and spreading out to new territory. And the cycle of expansion continues! (from different genetic race origins however, notably the one that starts with H and ends with N, and comes from a place named after the teasets it produced hundreds of years ago by its trading partners...)
Most people here are Daoists, mixed with various degrees of ancestor worship and puppets and volleyballs. Well not really any volleyballs. There are buddhists who actually don't care much for the puppets here, and then there are the puppety-buddhists as well. Some christians are left over on the East Coast who survived the Portugese occupation and inquistion... well not really, that was about 200 years before they got here... Nowadays the Mormons are trying hard to bicycle around and annoy people into joining their cult.
Most people in the cities roll their eyes and pretend to care about all the old culty nonsense their grandparents follow, and stick to worshipping the most logical western idols the altar of HBO and cinemax has provided, like Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston and Lady Gaga, like 'sensible' people should. Others prefer to worship at the altar of Gucci and Dolce and Gabbana, and some have created their own idol brands such as "Captain Stag" and 'Naturally JoJo' is one of my favorite female cults out here. They all have oversized breasts in the Jojo nation! (probably mostly tissue paper stuffed in the brazier, but it still makes for good eye candy.) Dressing your child in JoJo seems wrong to me. But it is done anyways.
That is what Taiwan is about and where it is.

Over the beyond decade, a number of novelists have taken in this query. Of path, in the ones stories, the U.S. first of all the sufferer of treachery however subsequently "well" triumphs over "evil" and China is humiliated. In truth, the hindrance is exceptionally tricky. As different writers right here have famous, China holds such an vast quantity of U.S. debt that a bodily invasion of Taiwan is practically useless. In addition the movement might be destabilizing inside China itself, that's riven with social, political and monetary stresses. Also, Japan and different major international locations within the neighborhood could good react in methods China might instantly remorse. U.S. coverage does importance Taiwan, something dismissive feedback had been made already. American funding in Taiwan is gigantic. The island is an major strategic position. Taiwanese production is primary to American pursuits and the worldwide economic climate. Those and different motives could also be ample for the U.S. to return to the help of Taiwan. Unfortunately, U.S. navy engagement - a minimum of beneath reward stipulations - might be commonly constrained, and it's not likely that the U.S. might dare chance a service institution or 2 to move head-to-head with China. The hazard of an escalating nuclear clash, too, is terrifyingly truly. American forces honestly accomplishing land fight at the Chinese mainland is an inconceivable suggestion - "Never get right into a land warfare in Asia" is a truism. All of those ruminations factor in the direction of a constrained U.S. involvement geared toward protecting Taiwan and displacing any invasion forces, instead than assaulting China in reaction. At the second, the U.S. is generally now not equipped of even doing that. Military forces are over-stretched, navy presents and apparatus are over-dedicated, and the U.S. finances for the defense force is strained past support. As a broader coverage subject, at the same time protection of Taiwan for realistic and ethical motives is maybe justifiable, the present coverage of U.S. willingness to make warfare is a whole reversal of such a lot country wide traditions and ethics. Until and until the U.S. will get out of its Middle East engagements - most likely in Iraq - and reconstitutes the protection status quo, there is not any feasible ethical justification for ANY American navy movement on the planet, and no ability to adopt it.

Taiwan is a fair-sized island located close to, and to the southeast of Mainland China. It is directly north of the Philippines, and south-southwest of Japan.
It is "about" being a democracy with a free press and freedom of expression, eagerly sharing various cultures and languages, protecting its beautiful sub-tropical environment, and providing a good education and health-care to all citizens.Source(s): TT
