A good place to start is petinsurancereview.com -- this is a third party site with ratings of all the companies.

I like Trupanion - no $ limits per claim, per year, or per incident.

And they don't do benefits schedules, so it always covers 90% of your bill.

    Here's a good comparison site: http://www.trupanionpetinsurance.com/Why_Choose_Tr...

I work at a vet's office and we see many different plans. I can't say I recommend any of them really. I see a lot of people becoming frustrated with these companies. You have to be careful. Upon applying for pet insurance the company will contact your vet's office for your pet's full set of records. Anything that happened to him or he has prior to your policy start date is considered a pre-existing condition and is not covered. Some companies also have pre-disposed issues per breed that they do not cover and they don't tell you about this upfront. This is especially common with dog breeds such as pugs and bulldogs. The insurance thing is a catch 22. If you're planning on getting a policy you want one as early as possible to avoid pre-existing conditions. The early years I've been told are pretty even. You get back pretty much what you pay out. Most people feel it's not very worth it. Especially with cats. You're better off taking that deductible you'd be paying to them and putting it in a special account to save for the future.

BUT if you're still interested in an insurance company these are the top 2 we see

    VPI Pet Insurance -- http://www.petinsurance.com/

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance -- http://www.aspcapetinsurance.com/

Give them a call and get a quote and see which one is the better choice for you. Good luck :)

I researched it a few years ago and came to the conclusion that it wasn't cost effective. The only time it might pay off is if your dog or cat had catastrophic injuries and required surgery or if it developed a costly long-term illness such as diabetes or cancer. And the sad reality is animals with cancer and diabetes usually don't have as good a long-term prognosis as humans with these diseases (though this is getting better with better treatments), so long-term isn't all that long-term most of the time anyway. Consumer Reports several years ago also did a report on it and reached the same conclusion. I don't have a link because their online service is subscription only and I get the magazine. Based on these reasons, I passed on it.

I suggest one to try this web page where you can get rates from different companies: http://cheap-insure.info/index.html?src=2YAgoeF77d...

    I like Embrace Pet Insurance.

Here is an article about it:

I just got 24petwatch. It was $13 for my mini dachshund and covers $1000 on different procedures. They have different plans. It is a $50 deductible for procedures but anything of your allotted amount has to be paid by you.
