Getting Cisco certified takes a lot of time and studying but is a very rewarding experience when you pass the exams.
Here is what I did to prepare for the exams. You can use some or all of the resources I'll mention below.
1) Read the official exam guides by Cisco Press. You can also read other books as a supplement, but these two books alone will give you a strong foundation.
2) I then watched professionally created video training courses. You can also find free ones on youtube, but you'll be spending a lot of time searching for them, I know because that's what I did too. You can find some really good ones at this site ...
The intstructor does a very good job at teaching you all the topics, his name is Chris Bryant and he is a CCIE.
Reading the books first helps to understand what is being taught in the videos.
3) I also bought real Cisco routers and switches to do the practice labs. You can find them on ebay, just make sure you buy from a reputable seller.
4) When you get close, about a month or so, to taking the exam, start taking practice exams to see where you are with each topic.
The ones I used are about a 60% match to what you will see on the real exams.
That's about it, like I said, it will take time to do all the reading, watching, labs, and practice exams, but it should give you the best chance of passing at test time.
Hope this helps and good luck!
