What are the major cities of the world/?
- SusanLv 45 years ago
'Major world cities' or a 'global city' is a city generally considered to be an important node in the global economic system. All the Major world cities are broken down into 12 categories (from highest ranked): Alpha++ (London and NYC), Alpha+, Alpha, Alpha-, Beta+, Beta, Beta, Gamma+, Gamma, Gamma-, High Sufficiency and Sufficiency. Sydney (category Alpha+) is ranked higher than Auckland (category Beta). Population makes very little difference. Because Auckland is still defined as a Major World City/Global City, it is the first to ring in the new year, not Sydney.
