Why do Chinese people wrap their remote controls in clingfilm?
I have been to three different chinese peoples home and noted this same treatment of the remote control. It is too much of a coincidence for it not to be for a reason.

when one of their friends started, they copy one another. Some of their thinking not only weird an d strange.
The only reason make sense is they afraid to spill water tea in it. As for germ, with the plastic with more bacteria on it.

The remote control is wrapped when you buy the equipment. They just don't unwrap it. You don't need to.,

Keeps the dust out of them and keeps them clean and safe if you accidentally spill a drink on it.
