The Twenty-sixth Amendment (Amendment XXVI) to the United States Constitution standardized the voting age to 18. It was adopted in response to student activism against the Vietnam War and to partially overrule the Supreme Court's decision in Oregon v. Mitchell. It was adopted on July 1, 1971

    26th Amendment.

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.

Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Before that different States had different rules.

EDIT: What it says is when you attain the age of 18 you are legally guaranteed the right to vote. So I am not sure where you get the you cannot be denied voting on account of age part when it says you have to be at least 18. Unless you mean old age.

It's ina hidden art of the Constituion, called the Twenty-sixth Amendment. I think there was a case involving student protests of the Vietnam War that led to the actual amendment movement.
