Do these these sides form a right triangle?

1. 20,99,101

2. 12,16,29

    Square all the numbers in each set. For the first it will be 20^2, 99^2, and 101^2, or 400, 9801, and 10201. By the Pythagorean Theorem, the square of the two smaller numbers must add up to the square of the larger. For #1 it does - 400+9801=10201, so #1 is a right triangle.

    Also, the square of the two smaller numbers must be less than the square of the third, or you can't make any sort of triangle.
