What is the average house size in the U.S in the 1950s (in square feet)?

    According to these sites the average was about 1100 to 1200 square feet in the 1950's.

    I know the three houses my family lived in the the 1950's ranged from about 900 square feet to about 1400 square feet.

    Average size house in the 1950's was about 1100 square feet. Some were smaller at about 900 square feet(My grandma's house) :) Very quaint. Love it.

    Most post war homes that were built were Cape Cods ( The house all children draw) They consisted of

    Bedrooms: 2-4

    Bathrooms: 1.50

    Floors: 1.5

    Square Footage: ~1600

    Year Built: 1947 - on
