who was the man in the iron mask? please help! /has anyone seen the movie with leonardo dicaprio?

im doing an essay on if the movie the man in the iron mask with leonardo dicaprio was historically accurate. I know the movie was based on the book by Alexandre Dumas, so i was wondering where he got his information from. Who was the man in the iron mask? did louis really have a twin brother? Was D'Artagnan really their father? Did Phillipe really rule after Louis was locked in the bastille? And were the characters portrayed correctly? stuff like that..

thanks !

No, it's not historically accurate. In fact D'Artagnan was the main character of the fictional french novel The Three Musketeers. Louis was a real king who had a mysterious change in political views while on the throne of France.
