Where to stay in Phuket and other destinations?

After 4 nights in Bangkok and 6 days in Perth I'm flying to Phuket. I'll have about 10 days then to chill. I would like to stay in Krabi, Railey and visit Phi Phi etc. Does anyone have any advice where to stay.

Should I book all rooms before I go or just turn up? Will be early january when I arrive.

If you have not already booked your flight to Phuket then go straight to Ao Nang, Krabi and base yourself there.

airasia.com fly to Krabi and Ao Nang is only 35 mins from airport.

It is cheaper, scenerey is more stunning , easy access to other Islands such as Phi Phi.

Phuket is now getting over priced, over crowded and over rated.

Check out agoda.com for cheap hotels and tripadvisor for what to see and do.

I think its always best to book your rooms in advance as you might end up where you do not want to be - agoda do good rates

Definitely book before you come here.

Phuket.com has tons of information on Phuket, Phi Phi, Krabi & other local attractions (link below). You can also find a number of hotel choices on their site.

    A couple of quick tips:

Krabi is about 2-3 hours away by car.

You can get to Phi Phi from either Phuket or Krabi.

My choices for best beaches on Phuket would be Patong, Surin, Kata & Nai Thon (Nai Thon is generally not as packed as the other ones).

Ao Nang is probably the best area to stay when you go to Krabi.

Last year I stayed at Au Nang beach in Krabbi. There's a nice beach there and its only a stones throw from Phuket and Phi Phi island. I payed 800 baht for an air Conditioned room. I never make reservations I just show up.

No need to book 1 place 1 hotel. I recommend you to book only 1-2 hotels, then book day trips and water activities to Phi Phi island, Koh Lanta sightseeing, Khai island, Hong island, Railey rock climbing, and more.

It might be difficult to find places to stay if you simply turn up in January. During the high season accommodation is at a premium so it'd be wise to book in advance. In regard to where to stay, I'd personally recommend Centara Resort in Krabi. I could rant all day about it but it'd make more sense if you google it and make your own mind up. Hope that helps.
