Which free antivirus is better for Home PC/Laptop?

i used to watch online videos, downloading movies and surfing reliable and non reliable sites...so please help me in selection an anti virus which meets all these requirements.

On CNET.com i find below figures -

1. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition # 905,902 downloads

2. Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus # 737,028 downloads

3. Avast Home Edition - Free Antivirus# 98,907 downloads

4. Avast Professional Edition# 36,132 downloads

5. AVG Anti-Virus# 36,132 downloads (may be not free)

but other sites are saying that AVIRA is best among free followed by AWAST and then AVG at the last ...

Only single antivirus cannot help u out in tough situations ,

You need a combination of softwares to help protect ur PC .

Here is the combination that I use

Avast antivirus > Malwarebytes > Super Antispyware > Comodo Firewall .

u can use AVG or Avira FREE in place of Avast , thats ur choice

As Far as avast is concerned , u need to register for free , give them ur email address and they will send u a free licence key for avast (i.e. for 1 year ) and u are entitled to use the software for 1 year !

U can get the above on following addresses -

    Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

    AVG - http://www.free.avg.com/

    Avira - http://www.free-av.com/

    Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/

    SuperAntispyware - http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

Any one of the following Firewalls -

    Comodo Firewall - http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

    Zone Alarm Free Firewall

    http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-...

These apps work in combo to protect ur PC , and provide rock solid protection against viruses ,and all are free !

    Good Luck

I changed to Avast a few months ago, I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

properly in case you have tried AVG, advert-conscious and Avast. a pair of those are suitable unfastened anti-virus. That in basic terms leaves you with a pair of selections for unfastened. Avira and Comodo. To be uncomplicated with you i do no longer care how stable a anti-virus software is at doing away with viruses. What i choose is one which will provide up them before they get on my laptop. in case you will possibly be able to desire to eliminate them then you definitely are doing something incorrect. i've got not had any malware get on my laptop in 10 years. some has tried yet consistently gets blocked before setting up. Comodo is amazingly stable even nevertheless it incredibly is no longer consumer friendly. you will possibly be able to provide it a attempt yet between the clarification Comodo has on no account have been on condition that standard is it takes to lots consumer enter. in case you do no longer prefer to pay the money for something like Norton internet protection. i could use AVG on a working laptop or laptop because of the fact it runs lighter than maximum different unfastened courses. in case you notice i did no longer point out Microsoft protection the clarification being is interior the final 6 months it has performed a bad activity in AV tests at 2 self reliant labs.

I used AVAST Home Edition, and it works perfectly. It tells me when it detects a virus, and immediately stops it. I haven't had a virus since I got my computer.

And I do not have another software specifically for anti-spyware. I believe AVAST has it built in.

Popular does not mean better. A lot of air-heads only go by what is popular today, instead of looking for themselves and deciding. I have tried all of the free AV's and today Avast is the best for my machine...

Different people have different minds. AVG is good according to my experience, and you'd better install a firewall, too.
