The word "informed" is as loaded with agenda-bias as a word can get. I shall side-step it and concentrate on the word "conscience."

Children have no conscience. Their behavior is totally based upon a reward/punishment view of the world. Some people never progress beyond that stage though they live to 90.

Conscience develops with ones ability to mentally place oneself in an others shoes and visualize the consequences upon the imagined person of the real person's actions.

After death, bereavement is much less painful for family members who have a well informed conscience because it has allowed many important issues to be addressed and resolved in life; good-byes have been said, and the family can rest assured that they have followed the patient's wishes and that their efforts have been appreciated.
