rain jackets protect more from humidity, and not snow, cold, and frozen elements.
also, despite being rain jackets, you still usually get really wet from the inside. and thats te last thing you would want in below-freezing weather
The reason we have snow jackets, and dont use rain jackes, is to keep the cold and snow out, while keeping us warm. rain jackets do not do this. unless youre snowboarding in positive-degree weather, and its not snowing or raining out, then i suggest you go buy a snow jacket.

and, nowadays, old isnt necessarily a bad thing. with the hipster movement, people are liking the neon. i bought a neon 1990's snow jacket from a thrift store to use this season, and i have an empire jacket.
