Yes you need to have a green card to join the Military.

Get your green card, then talk to a recruiter.

In order to join the US Military, you must either be a US citizen, or you must be a legal permanent immigrant, physically living in the United States, with a green card. The US military cannot and will not assist with the immigration process. If you are not a US citizen, you must legally and permanently immigrate to the United States first, via the regular immigration procedures and quotas, establish a residence, and then (if you meet the other qualifying criteria), visit a military recruiter's office and apply for enlistment.

Also, I am 38 and I could care less in fitting in with a bunch of kids at a college. Then need to try to hang with me. I never played the washed-up card and do more than most will do in two lifetimes. None of my current school peers care and I am not always the oldest in class. Who cares? I still do more than some 19 year old on the weekends.

There was just a bunch of people who just became US citizen at Camp LeJeune on the 4th of July this year. I have served with many who had there green card and were in the service.I was a Marine and I'm sure each branch has plenty. It is sort of tricky and not all recruiters are going to have the answer right up front some will but not all of them. They can get the information and walk a person though it. Many people complete more education after going in citizen or not, it does help them a great deal not only in promotions but they feel better about given something back instead of just taking.

To join the Army, you don't have to be a US citizen but you cannot get a secret or top secret clearance without citizenship. That will reduce the available jobs to you. You need either citizenship or a Green Card.

If you don't have a Green Card then the only way you can join is if you enlist through the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) Program. To take advantage of it, you have to be in the US legally for at least two years and you have to have a special skill the military is looking for. The skills they are looking for are in the medical, dental, and language field. Your local recruiter has an updated list.

If you are here illegally then you cannot enlist.

If you really want to join the Military look at options and ways of becoming a US Citizen. To serve out country you have to be a resident and citizen of it first. Then get with a Marine or Army recruiter and tell them your aspirations and goals.Ask what do you have to do to enlist. But in the end your going to need a GED/High School diploma and most of all US citizenship.Good Luck man! Semper Fi!

Not having a US high school diploma doesn't matter.Tour going to just need the diploma in hand to prove you have it.And yes you need to get a green card so you can also have proof your a US citizen too.Good Luck!

Yes there is are programs and all sort of that business. You have to be a very special guy to get that. You might be that special guy and still not qualify for whatever reason.

But the major problem on that end is by having a US based diploma shows the government that you were and are straight up illegal. I cast no stones but it is what it is.

Join the Marines because they have e reputation of being tough and very respected. The Army is the easy way through compared to the Marines.

Ok, I might get flammed for this, but this is my sincere answer. I WOULD NOT join the military PRIOR to completing my college education. PLEASE LISTEN AS I AM TALKING FROM ALL TOO PERSONAL EXPERIENCE HERE. You DO NOT want to go to college after getting out of the Marine Corps as you will be alot older than the rest of the students and will not fit in. In other words, you will be totally disconnected if you aren't already married and have a family. Please, go to college FIRST. The Army and Marine Corps will still be there when you graduate!
