Why do Pink Floyd fans say PF makes deep/dark music as compared to Led Zeppelin (please read details of ques)?

Does Pink Floyd have a darker song than "Whole Lotta Love"?

Does Pink Floyd have a song that rocks people, like "The Immigrant Song"?

Does Pink Floyd have a bluesy tune like "Since I've been loving you"?

It isn't no surprise that the people today who think Pink Floyd is greater than Led Zeppelin also think Jonas Brothers is great. Just because they use the laser and lighting shows in their live performances does not make them better than Led Zeppelin. But "kids" are always impressed by toys. Pink Floyd are a great band, an innovative band. But please don't compare their raw talent with Zeppelin, or even the question of innovation. Led Zeppelin were a far diverse band in terms of music genres, and influence for other bands.

When they say dark, Pink Floyd takes you to a jouney to the darkest place of your MIND. They had the best audio system of any band and their music always started slow emotionally and when the song ended. It was back to its original state. But the middle of the song was the climax for PF.

They had a different style and no way compared to Led Zep. Led Zep is one of the greatest band of all times. Period

The way you wrote your question makes me think that your not all that "old". Like were you around when Whole Lotta Love first came out? Or when Dark Side first came out? Well, I was.

I don't understand first of all what is there to compare? This is nuts.

It's nuts because first of all both of these bands are one of a kind, understand, second neither is better or worse then the other because there both great for the music they produced.

Pink Floyd takes you on a mind trip. Pink Floyd once said you really don't even have to take drugs to watch or listen to us, we do that for you.

And I've always thought Led Zeppelin's music is wonderfully sexual.

AND.........for God's sake stop comparing the Jonas Brothers to "real" rock and roll legendary friggin bands. I can't believe some of you think theres even a contest between them. C'MON would yeah!!!

.......and for the person that wished they could have seen the Pink Floyd "Pulse" concert.

I saw it and as soon as it was over I wanted to see it again.

    It was fcking wonderful!!!!

You're asking people to compare subjective interpretations of individual songs as if some sort of meaningful objective response can be given. Pink Floyd produced some very dark music, and some not so dark music. Zep did the same. Similarly for songs that "rock people", although perhaps not so much for bluesy songs (but what does that have to do with anything? Blues isn't the ultimate in music). I personally prefer Pink Floyd to Led Zep, though I listen to both depending on the mood. Both have their inherent, different qualities. I think you'd struggle to argue that, for example dark side of the moon was not a great album - indeed, you could easily make a case for it to be one of the greatest albums. I would disagree, entirely, that Led Zep were more diverse in terms of music genres. I think you might like to go back and check the catalogue of Pink Floyd from their earlier years if you really dispute that. In any case, as I said, you're asking people to compare a personal interpretation as if any could be considered more right than any other. By the way, the Jonas Brothers, like all Christian rock music are simply evidence of the existence of Satan - nothing else could produce something so purely, totally crap and make it so popular.

I second Wire and String's answer. To suggest that Pink Floyd fans are also fans of the Jonas Brothers is tantamount to suggesting that Led Zeppelin fans are fans of New Kids on the Block; if you're trying to be funny, mission accomplished, but if you're trying to make a valid point and encourage actual conversation, your approach is all wrong. Both bands have had an immeasurable impact and influence on music, and I suspect the surviving members of both PF and LZ would tell you there's no point in belittling the other.

    Source(s): Fan of both bands.

Both Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are totally different, of which neither has dark and deep music. Pink Floyd was more experimental. Led Zeppelin were influenced by the blues.

Take time to listen to all of their albums from their first to their last.

    I don't know.

    I love both groups.

I've never said, "PF makes deep/dark music as compared to Led Zeppelin"

Nor, have I ever heard any PF fan say, "PF makes deep/dark music as compared to Led Zeppelin"

Personally, I think LedZep, themselves, have quite a few songs, "darker than Whole Lotta Love"

I do not consider Pink Floyd to be a Blues-influenced or a Rock-influenced band.

I consider them to be Psychedelic/Prog/Space -- influenced.

I consider Led Zep to be influenced more by --

Blues -- "Since I've Been Lovin' You"

Heavy Metal -- "Misty Mountain Hop"

    BackWater -- "Bronyaur Stomp"

    Rockabilly -- “Candy Store Rock”

Mystical Folk -- "Battle for Evermore"

    Indian -- "Black Mountain Side"

Cathedralesque -- "Your Time is Gonna Come"

    Exotic -- "In the Light"

    ...and Flat-Out Apocalyptic -- "Kashmir"

However -- I would never consider comparing them to Pink Floyd.

I think they are both "Legendary" -- in their own respect :)

I do think that Syd Barrett's Lyrics were Philosphocially & Acid-induced.

    Whereas --

Jimmy Page's lyrics were more "Eastern" & "Jack Daniels" induced ;)

    Edit --

Actually - just for arguments sake --

I do not think any LZ song is as "Dark" as PF's "Cirrus Minor"

This has to be a joke. I like Zeppelin but they are hardly "diverse", their music is straight blues (and also plagiarized).

Just about every Floyd song is darker than Whole Lotta Love.

you realize the second you compared pink floyd to the jonas brothers you lost all credibility and any hope for a serious answer that might have expanded your taste in music and helped you appreciate pink floyd as well as led zepp must now be replaced by ridicule.

you dont know a thing about music. grow up.

led zepplin and pink floyd are both great, great bands and are completely different in what they do. if you dont respect bands other then led zepplin(great as they are) such as pink floyd, then you cant be a true fan of rock music. i dont like ac/dc for instance, but i respect them for what they are. led zep isnt better then pink floyd and pink floyd isnt better then led zepplin. pink floyd were also a great talent and their has been no band in history like them.

I cannot think of a better example than The Division Bell.

I would have passed up a lot of concerts to have been able

    to see Pulse.

On the genre diversity, I agree with you on that.

Gilmour's song moods were complemented by the lasers.

He is a political type of man, but subtle about all that.

And Robert is romantic, not a romantic.

3 eyes is not bad for one head. I don't think I

    answered your question, really.
