RHH: What is the best SAMPLED hip hop song (As a song in it's own right)?

I'm gonna explain this carefully

WHAT SONG SAMPLED ON A HIP HOP RECORD is the best (Arguably) as a song unto itself, As in you could listen to it on it's own and feel content?

I'm not asking what you feel is the best sample used on a hip hop record.

(I ask because a lot of sampled hip hop records aren't that great when listened to independently)

Update:

Ok, For example

Gangstarr - Manifest

samples

Dizzy Gillespie & Charlie Parker - One Night In Tunisia.

One Night In Tunisia is a mindblowing record and pretty much outweighs the quality of Manifest IMO.

I think Message From A Black Man by The Spinners is a better song than any of the hip hop tracks that have sampled it, the only version that might be as good is You Can't Stop Me Now by the Rza

I think I enjoy both songs equally, I really like the original sample, and I really enjoy listening to Rza's song.

I like most of the samples I look up actually. Plus a lot of more commercial hop-hop artist sample famous artists.

My favorite as of when you asked this question:

    Love TKO-

  • Bon Bon Vie by Thelonius Monk and Unwind Yourself by Marva Whitney are two of my favourites. Unwind Yourself especially is a vastly superior song to Let Me Clear My Throat. I also love Venus in Furs which is used by BSBD on Evil Jeanius.

Mozart's Requiem is also waaaaay better in its original form.

But this could turn into a very long list. Hip hop has sampled some amazing music, there's a world of it worth mentioning.

You can't go wrong with the classics

    Bill Withers - Lovely Day

Sampled by Too Short in Players Holiday

I grew up on Players Holiday but it has nothing on the classic by the incredibly underrated Bill Withers.

I cant think of one that I think is the absolute best sampled song but one song that I can listen to without the lyrics is "Kick Push", that song has a nice sample.

I totally misunderstood your question so disregard my first answer...Im changing my answer to "The Light" by Common, the sample is "Open Your Eyes" by Bobby Caldwell. Great song.

I haven't done any work in the past 15 minutes because I was searching through my iPod for a good answer. The best I could come up with is Ornette Coleman - "Lonely Woman" (sampled on Aceyalone - Human Language).
