In today’s fast-paced society, driving is a skill that everyone should know. The demand for professionally qualified instructors for driving lessons is always high and continues to grow, with many instructors having waiting lists of students. If you are skilled driver
who has the ability to teach and remain calm in high-stress situations, consider becoming an instructor in a driving school. Depending on where you live, your employer, and how many students you can take, you can earn a comfortable living as a driving instructor. For instance, a driving instructor in New York state can earn as much as $52,000 a year. Besides this, being a driving instructor requires no previous experience or qualifications besides a spotless driving record. Interested? Read on to find out how to become an instructor in driving school.
1.Check your state or country’s regulations. The requirements for driving instructors vary from country to country and state to state, so make sure you contact the licensing agency or Department of Motor Vehicles to find out what the requirements are. You will need to hold a valid non-professional driver’s license to become an instructor. You must also be at least 21 years old, have a high school diploma, be a legal resident of the state or country where you will be teaching, and submit to a background check.
2.Now that you know what the requirements are, you need to get educated and certified. You will have to undergo a training program from a certified educational institute for driving instructors. Courses include classroom instruction and in-car training. Depending on the driving school, you may have to provide your own car for the in-car classes. Once you’re done taking the training courses, file an application to become a driving instructor. You will have to take an exam and you will be issued a professional license or certification once you pass it.
3.Congratulations, you are now a certified driving instructor! The last thing you need to do is find a job. There are several places where you can teach, including private driving schools, high schools, and colleges. Create a resume that includes details on your education and driving experiences, then start looking for institutions that need driving instructors. One place you can start is at your local DMV. You can also put an ad in Craigslist or the classified ads offering your services. You may have to start at a small driving school first, as the bigger ones might require a certain number of hours of experience before they consider hiring you. However, all your hard work will eventually show itself in the amount of money you will earn as a driving instructor.
4.Remember that part of being a good driving instructor isn’t just driving well – it’s also the ability to communicate well to your students and be patient when their learning curves are slow. You also need to be able to stay calm and think fast when things go wrong to keep your student and other motorists safe.

Make sure you've got good management software that allows you to engage your target demographic. You'll want something that allows you to offer online booking, send out automated text reminders for appointments, packages of lessons, and has a good CRM system.
