# Using long division to get a percentage?

Can someone show me a way, without using a calculator, to work out the percentage of 16/25? I understand working it out gives you 1r9 but how do I find the percentage by hand?

Thanks.

dont stop your long division with the remainder, keep dividing to get decimals.

also consider

16/25 is less than 1, 1r9 is not a possible answer because 1r9 is greater than 1

the 25 goes outside, and the 16 goes on the inside

16/24=.64

multiply by 100

64%

You don't need long division, or a calculator to work this one out.

The denominator is a factor of 100...

16/25 = 64/100

4 x 16 = 64, and 4 x 25 = 100

Convert the fraction into a percentage, and you get 64%.
