What is the name and formula of the diatomic molecule, I2?

Is it Iodine, Iodide, Iodine gas, or something else?

    It's just iodine. Also, under standard conditions I2 is a solid, not a gas.

    An easy way to remember these is that there is Hydrogen and then starting at atomic number 7 on the periodic table there are the other 7, in the shape of a 7! (N, O, F, Cl, Br, I). If you don't have a table, just remember Brinclhof. Strange name that spells out the elements. Those two have worked for me over the years.

    Yes, I₂ is iodine gas, just like O₂ is oxygen gas.
