Why doesn't Liberal "Compassion" extend beyond slogans and bumper stickers?

Arthur C. Brooks, a professor at Syracuse University, published "Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism."

---- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).

-- -- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.

-- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.

-- Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average.

-- In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.

-- People who reject the idea that "government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality" give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition.

The single biggest predictor of someone's altruism, Willett says, is religion. It increasingly correlates with conservative political affiliations because, as Brooks' book says, "the percentage of self-described Democrats who say they have 'no religion' has more than quadrupled since the early 1970s." America is largely divided between religious givers and secular nongivers, and the former are disproportionately conservative. One demonstration that religion is a strong determinant of charitable behavior is that the least charitable cohort is a relatively small one -- secular conservatives.

This is a lot of BS.

Since when you they ask you your Political affiliation when you give blood or donate to charity.

You're also conveniently forgetting about all the Independents.

    Nice try.

Arthur Brooks is a Conservative. This is a phone poll asking people what they do charitably. It proves that Liberals aren't liars and that Cons like tax breaks for donating to their churches that already pay no taxes.

All liberals really care about is money- Obama proved that! He is buying peoples support, he is trashing America making us a weak nation- Now the world will be a mess! There will be nutcase dictators starting wars everywhere! Obama won't stop them.... because he wants his fellow followers all to get more WWII games, more nice cars and more drugs and more free tax paid abortions.

They only use compassion as a political tool, to gain control and power over the money- its all about greed for liberals. Just look at congress- they want raises now but refuse to read the bills- They call opposers racists and stupid because they are so arrogant and conceded.

Actually liberals tend to either be more wealthy or more poor, and Im from a liberal state (md) && I'm happy here because people are more accepting & free. In other conservative states theyre usually annoying & sexist. and racist. Not always, but that's just how I feel.

"...Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families..."

Wouldn't that seem to make a lie out of the oft-repeated Conservative claim that Liberals are lazy, non-working louts who feed off of the wealthy and society in general?

Their bumper stickers and slogans are just like the plans they propose empty and corrupt and pointless

It does. It extends into the pockets of the middle class and wealthy.

Because celebrity voices and TMZ don't go beyond such a thing.

Excellent point. Liberals are only charitable when it comes to spending other peoples' money.
