can I use frontline for dogs on my hamster?

can I use frontline for dogs on my hamster?

My hamster has tics/mites. And I was wondering if it would be ok to use my frontline tic treatment from my dog on my hamster.

    Revolution is a great treatment.

There are NO pet products that are ON LABEL for rodents for mite and lice treatment. (Rats don't typically get fleas.) This prescription (US requires prescription) is safer than OTC treatments such as sprays.

The revolution tube to buy is any one with a 60mg/ml potency. That is the kitten, puppy, and adult cat formulas. For someone with 3 rats of good size, the kitten tube should be sufficient to dose all of them, it has .25 ml of medication in it.

http://jarvm.com/articles/Vol5Iss3/Beck%2087-96.pd... is a peer review article for your vet.

Ivermectin is another common treatment HOWEVER, people don't tend to dose correctly and the small animal ends up dying. Also, it is a cumbersome treatment, you have to give it to them every orally every week.

http://ratguide.com/meds/antiinfectives/selamectin... And this site is used by most rat savvy owners. And those of us that own hamsters, piggies, ferrets, gerbils, mice et cetera also treat them with Revolution.

Putting the bedding in the freezer for 48 hours does kill the mites and lice in the bedding before putting it in the cages. Here is an example in the ratguide about freezing bedding

I use it on my rats, hamsters, mice, and gerbils when I have them. I know others use it on ferrets, chins, guinea pigs and rabbits....

    Hope this helps.
