    The Baroque period was long -- in Art History, we generally date it from the beginning of the 17th century to the middle of the 18th -- so quite a few "historical" events of importance occurred.

    Here's one to get you started: the Thirty Years' War. You might also consider Galileo's conflict with the Roman Catholic Church, the Treaty of Antwerp between Spain and the Netherlands, and the Civil War (and Restoration) in Great Britain.
