Direct shines right on the object. Indirect shines near but not on and is reflected off all things around object.

Direct sunlight is sunlight that shines onto a plant at full strength, with nothing getting between the sunlight and the plant. Indirect sunlight is sunlight that doesn't shine onto a plant at full strength, but is weakened by something coming between it and the plant.

Indirect sunlight is normally the light you would get from a skylight or a north window. The actual sun never shines on the object, just a bright window, open so light comes in, but the actual sun doesn't hit the object (plant?)
