Do animals count when filing a flight plan?

VFR specifically but i don't think it makes a difference. Like a dog for example. If I were flying with my dog would i file 2 onboard?

Update:

Thanks guys. Never have been told this even though I am a member of a CAP Ground Search Team

    No.

Because if you crashed, rescue workers would mistakenly search for another passenger.

I suppose that when filling out your flight plan, you could state that you have a dog with you in the 'Remarks' section.

No. The rescue personnel don't want to be bothered looking for pets or animals too when they have human bodies to account for at the crash site.

Animals only count when you are claiming dependents for tax purposes;)
