CA DMV learners Permit expired?

My mom lost her job over the summer so i was not able to pay for the last part of my drivers training until now, however my permit expired before i could take the driving test. I was wondering what you have to bring to the DMV to get the permit renewed??

Update:

Below is a quote direct from California DMV:

"How to Renew an Instruction Permit

If your permit has expired, you must start again.

This means resubmitting documents, paying the

application fee, and taking the required tests.

If you are under 18 years of age, you will need

your parents' or guardians' signature on the

    application form.

    Cumulative Credit

Your driver license application is valid for 12 months

from the application date. If you have had your driver's

license application for at least 1 year, but haven't

held a permit for at least 6 months, you have to return

to DMV and fill out a new application.

    * You will need to pay the application fee again

    and complete all application requirements.

    * Take your expired permit with you to DMV.

You will be credited for the time you have held

your instruction permit and receive cumulative

credit towards your new permit to meet the six-

month requirement before taking your driving test.

You must keep the expired permit with your new

instruction permit until you pass your driving test.

The new instruction permit and the expired permit

is the only proof of credit that satisfies the six-month

requirement. When a new application is started, DMV

does not retain the previous application information.

If you lose your expired instruction permit, without

the necessary proof of a previous application, the

full six-month waiting period will be required before

you will be allowed to take your driving test.

Bring both your instruction permits with you when

    you take your driving test."

You could even be under a different law, but you

do not mention your age to know this. You could

even fall under a part in law that would allow you

to make a new application, take all the tests, and

get your license within a couple of days at most.

In some cases you could even get it almost

immediately, but without enough info, I can't be

    sure.

All of the information I can find applies to an expired CA learner's permit. My question is about one that hasn't expired yet. My daughter will not be getting her license for a few months and we'd like to get her new permit BEFORE her permit expires so there's no loss of driving privileges. Is there any way to apply for her new permit BEFORE the expiration date of her current permit, or do we have to wait until after it expires? I am asking because there are only specific days that I can take her to DMV, which is in another town.

In California you just go in and get a new permit. and then wait a few days and go take your test. No long waits for it only to get to the head of the line :P
