The Radeon 4830 is slightly slower than a GeForce 9800GT, while the Radeon 4850 is slightly faster. The Radeon 4830 has essentially been replaced by the newer Radeon 4770, which runs cooler and uses less power. The 4770 runs about $110 currently.

The GTS 250 and Radeon 4850 are virtually a toss-up in performance- depending upon the specifc game title and resolution/detail, either card takes a small lead in fps. The 4850 goes for about $100 nowadays, a much better price than the GTS250 at $125.

So currently, the 4850 for $100 offers the most bang/buck in the graphics card market.

The pricing favors ATI across the board from low-end to high midrange cards, you have to spend about $20-$25 more to get an Nvidia card of equivalent performance.

    A couple of points:

The GTS 250 is Nvidia's renaming of the 9800GTX+

The Radeon 3870 is weaker than the 9800GT, slightly below the 9600GT is some benchmarks- it's also old tech nowadays. It's certainly better than any $75 cards, but not $99 cards.

There's no reason to buy a Radeon 3870 or GeForce 9800GT unless you're getting them really cheap, because better cards are usually available for just a few dollars more.

I have the 3870 like Scott above talks about. Its about the best card for the price, about 75 dollars at Newegg.com. Most good or better cards cost from 130 to 200 dollars. Always check Newegg before you buy; in 4 years its the best parts store I have found.

To compare video cards look at type and amount of ram,,ddr5 is faster than ddr3, clock speeds are important, number of pixel shaders go from 120 to 800, bit size is very important, 256 is better than 128 bit, etc.

here is a Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart...the 9800gt is really just a fancier 8800gt and the gts 250 is a super 8800gt....the 9800gt can be compared to the hd radeon 4830 or even the 3870....

The 4850 (which i strongly recommend) and the Ati 4870 which is a more superior card.

nicely i did a project on it, and that i could say this is a good card. I ran Crysis Warhead on it with 35fps(familiar) and each little thing set to extremely severe specs. i could propose it.
