    if they are parallel, the gradient will be the same, so differentiate each function:

    1/x become -1/x^2

    rearrange and differentiate 4x+9y=3:

    y=1/3-4x/9

    dy/dx=-4/9

    equate these:

    -1/x^2=-4/9

    solve:

    x^2=9/4

    x=3/2 or -3/2

    put this x value into original equation:

    y=1/x

    y=2/3 or -2/3

    4x+9*1/x=3

    4x+9/x=3

    (4x^2+9)/x=3

    4x^2-3x+9=0
