Should Roman Polanski get a free pass since his wife was murdered by the Manson family?

Or should he be held accountable for drugging and raping a thirteen year old girl?

    rape = rape

    This is the official petition, and it doesn't even address what he did. Not even to try and claim he's innocent. They know full well what he did and they still petition for his release.

    These people are insane, out of touch with reality and should have ZERO credibility with the public, ESPECIALLY the morons and rape apologists who signed this petition, and hold their dear little film-making industry on a higher pedestal than they do the innocence of a 7th grade girl raped by a monster who thought he was invincible just because he makes movies.

    No, he should be held accountable, even though in the 1970s things were viewed very differently, even today the age of consent is still 14 in several US states having been lowered in that decade in response to changing attitudes. The fact that his wife was horrifically murdered should have no bearing on the matter. He did, by the accounts of all parties involved, coerce the girl in question into having sex.

    Certainly at the time it was considered par for the course for movie stars, directors, rock stars and so on to have sex with every female that crossed their path, this was the true sexual liberation decade, after all. And it was also par for the course that starlets, models and other glitterati made themselves sexually available as part of their social career model.

    But while this does not excuse him in any way, it would also be unfair to now apply modern attitudes to his prosecution, however, given the current hysteria in this area, that would seem to be impossible.

    It should also be remembered that in those days getting a girl or woman drunk or high and coercing them into having sex was not considered rape, which is why he was allowed to plea bargain the charges of rape to unlawful sexual intercourse, something that would not even be possible today in similar circumstances.

    A difficult question that does not have a simple answer.

    He should serve the sentence appropriate for his conviction.

    His story is no excuse.

    And it doesn't matter that the now-adult victim doesn't want him to be punished.

    Society can not let people get away with drugging and raping children.

    What would you want if he had raped your daughter?

    They should cut him a deal - castration in exchange for immediate release - otherwise 50 years.
