There is a difference in soul and spirit! They have different Hebrew and Greek words and are different. Hebrews 4:12
Soul is personality, emotions. When you die, the soul dies. It is NOT immortal.. Soul is blood and breath. Hence, loss of breath and ending of blood flow brings death.
The book of Ecclesiastes is fairly short (12 chapters) and explains much about our nature and destinies.
When we die, our energy ceases and the spirit returns to the true God who gave it.
Ezekiel 18:4 "For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son-both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die." (Also Ezekiel 18:20)
Mark 14:34: Jesus poured out his soul to the death
There are at least 41 instances in the Bible showing the soul (nephesh, Gr. psyche)is not IMMORTAL-. The belief that souls are immortal is pagan.
