QUESTION: My friend sells me his 1999 Chrysler LHS, is it a GOOD CAR?
He just give it for $1000 because the AC doesn't work.
And how much will be the cost of the AC repair?

When the car was new the LHS was a fine car. One of Chrysler's best and a very good looking car (IMHO). The styling was way ahead of it's time and they sold a lot of these cars. It's now almost 11 years old. Figuring out if it's still a good car or not will be determined by how well your friend took care of the car. Did he maintain the vehicle properly and when needed? Did he drive the car carelessly or with caution?
Obviously they didn't repair the A/C when it broke, how many other repairs did they ignore? Are the brakes good, the tires new, the oil fresh? Is the interior clean and the paint free of scratches and dents? Have the shocks and struts been replaced?
$1000 isn't a lot of money for a car so your expectations for reliability shouldn't be real high. After all you do get what you pay for and you aren't paying much. Regardless, if you want an honest evaluation of the condition of the vehicle take it to a certified mechanic for a complete pre-purchase inspection. Something every used car buyer should be prepared to do.

If it is shot which it sounds like then about 2500-3000.00 They are high maitenance as in a 10 year old one it averages 2000 a year in repairs. If it has 150,000 plus miles leave it as it is not worth the problems. You can get a 1989-92 Toyota Tercel or corolla that will if maintained go 3-500,000 and average 30 a month repairs for a 15 year old one.
