How does one become a Judge?

Do you become a lawyer first? Not all lawyers are judges though.

Can you chose what kind of judge to be? Rape cases, things like this?

In the US you plot a course. Obtain a law degree, chose where you will practice (many small towns will vote for Judges and some are appointed), pass the bar, practice law, find out what types of judges exist, where and for what.

I believe the easiest route is to become a lawyer first, gain some actual courtroom experience, and then aim towards becoming a judge.

You'd not be able to preside specifically over rape cases. A specialisation in a particular field of law, such as family or criminal, is normal, though that's as focussed as it gets, really.

A lawyer may apply to become a judge or he or she may be invited to apply.

If judges could choose their cases, the justice system would fall apart.

If you don't realise that, you won't be a judge because you need brains for law school
