Earthworm and alcohol?

I am taking a college class where we have to dissect an earthworm and the first thing we do is put the earthworm in a cup of alcohol (rubbing alcohol, I think), is the earthworm dying or am I just putting it to sleep???

Well, if you're dissecting a worm it's going to end up dead either way.

It kills the worm but maintains the normal tissue consistency. The alternative would be to purchase formaldehyde-preserved worms from a biological supply company, however worms preserved in this way are tough and leathery and don't feel "natural".

  • It dies !!!

I believe if you put a slug in beer it'll die... maybe same for worm...
