Health care or corruption in government--which should be fixed first?

Let a corrupt, unhealthy government push a health care plan, then fix the corruption OR

Kill corruption first, then let a healthier government make decisions about health care?

Update:

We need a persident who would spend an entire term doing NOTHING but fighting corruption in government.

He could get re-elected on THAT alone.

Update 2:

Some appear to have defeatist attitudes--these attitudes are why corruption persists.

Update 3:

The people are who give government its power. If you start to strip away all that power, then it would be a lot easier to police by the people.

LESS government, not MORE is a start.

Update 4:

Bryan: Correct on Obama and lobbyist lie. But we cannot continue to elect officials who have no honor. That is OUR fault.

Update 5:

We need to elect politicians like James Stewart's role in "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington"

Honor before ALL else. I know that those people exist somewhere.

Obama said we can pay for his program with the money we save by cutting the waste, corruption and inefficiency out of medicare and medicaid.

    Why stop there?

Could there be waste and corruption and inefficiency in Homeland Security?? Nah, impossible. Considering the wonderful job they did in the aftermath of Katrina....

The depeartment of education being wasteful and inefficient?? With 20 % of our high school kids failing to graduate? No, can't be happening.

HUD? With such caring and loving organizations such as Acorn helping them make low cost housing affordable?

You won't find much waste there?

My point. With all the waste, coirruptiona d iffeciency in government, WHY HAS THIS BEEN ALLOWED TO HAPPOEN IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!

And the first person to point a finger is probably the most to blame, for he is concerned with little more than covering his ***, and none at all about doing his job.

A corrupt government does not fix anything it only creates more corruption. Therefore the answer is pretty straight forward, but the very fact that the government is corrupt and largely unable to police itself properly indicates that the corruption will never be fixed. So I ask you which came first the chicken or the egg?

Edit: It is not a defeatist attitude. It is a realistic attitude based on experience. In order to fix corruption we would need a fundamental redesign of the system. The current ways of doing things would have to be changed. This is just not going to happen because politicians do not vote against their own self interests. Really want a place to start then you must end lobbying and institute term limits. This is something that no politicians ever seriously endorses. Remember that Obama was going to have strict rules for lobbyists in his administration. This was a campaign pledge and the first one he broke after being sworn into office.

Edit: Until people engage with one voice demanding an end to isntitutional corruption. Until we speak with one voice in voting out those who defy the public trust this will never happen. As long as we allow ourselves to be distracted by the use of partisan division the problems will continue. In short, as long as the party system continues to exist, so to will the corruption.

You want to fight corruption in government coming from both parties? Than get rid of the corporate lobbyists in Washington who use their power and money to influence policy. Introduce campaign finance reform so that politicians start working for us the people, rather than special interests.

I would even settle for fixing the corruption and waste in the existing government run health programs. It's the least they could do if they're expecting us to trust them to do the right thing with regard to our health care.

Every government in recorded history had some level of corruption. If we try to end government corruption before all other problems we'll be waiting forever.
