which normally has more total pore space: a sandy soil or a clay soil(considering that both are in good?
physical condition? why is this so?

sandy soil. because the sand particles are much larger than clay so they don't compact togeter well leaving a lot of pores for the water and air to penetrate. the clay partilcles are much smaller plus kinda flat so they compact very well forming a tight seal so water and air don't penetrate that good
