One of the best ways to save money is to buy online. If you can read a certified certificate, that is more important than what the untrained eye will be able to see actually viewing a diamond. In addition to other good sites already posted these are great:

You can't pick an engagement ring off of a website, you can't see how the stones reflect light, or intricate details.
Go to a store

I got mine from Zales :) the best place for a diamond. Not matter the size. The prices can be a little much but the sales are nice :) especially the lifetime warranty you can add on

I got my wife's ring at Diamond Brokers of Florida:

Or you could check out these other online sources:
www.WhiteFlash.com
www.GoodOldGold.com
www.ExcelDiamonds.com
www.BlueNile.com
Blue Nile's database is good, but they don't provide you with photos or analysis reports of the diamond. I wouldn't go with them for that reason.
Happy hunting.

Check out overstock.com. You can't beat the comparison prices.
