Obstruction of justice was what he eventually was charged with, but that is not a constitutional issue as such. Nixon claimed he had executive privilege in his taped White House conversations and refused to turn them over to the special federal prosecutor investigating the Watergate break-in. The prosecutor, Leon Jaworski, took Nixon to court, and eventually the Supreme Court ruled that the President had to comply with a subpoena directed at him for the investigation of crime.
