Are people naturally egotistic?

Does everyone think they understand everyone better than everyone else?

I'd say so, but I'm not sure if a person would call that egotistical. People just want to understand some times.

Most people have the internal drive for survival - if that is what you call egoism.

The common egoism only develops much later as a result of this society.

About the understanding I will say nothing.

Our mind contains discrimination power, besides intelligence, ego and memory also. It is, therefore, natural to be egotistic. Though ego is a weakness, we are supposed to overcome it by sacrifice and austerity.

well I don't know about that.

I mean if everyone is out for themselves why do we have firefighters, volunteer emt's?

those sort of people seem to be thinking of other's first.

    Society makes them that way.

We don't know if it's natural or not, because quite frankly society doesn't have it any other way.

Yes but they don't want to be told they are.
