What does this quote mean?

You are only as safe as the least safe person in the laboratory?

    its a slight variation in a common expression, meaning that the simplest mistake can cause a lot of problems and typically the ones who make mistakes are the ones who pay the least amount of attention. its not enough for you to be careful, you also have to make sure everyone else is careful.

    You may be safe, your friend next to you may be safe, but the person screwing around next table over just took away your safety. In other words dont mess around.

    That means that even if your being safe someone else could be being unsafe and if your close to them you could get hurt.
