is the university of chicago public or private?

i would like to know a little bit more about the university of chicago. I live in the chicago land area does this reduce my chances of attending? What studies does it specialize in?

The University of Chicago is a private university. It does not improve your chances, but it does not really hurt them either. They want students from all areas. It is a very prestigious school and excels in most areas. It is known as an academically challenging school, its unofficial motto is "the place fun came to die".
