I just got a new remote for my directv HD-20 reciver. when i go to program it it only works for one button?

I just got a new remote for my directv HD-20 reciver. when i go to program it it only works for one button, it doesn't matter what button you push it work but only once. then you have to re-enter the setup and the same thing happens it only works once. how can i fix this?

Have you tried resetting the receiver?
