How do YOU judge whether or not you want someone to be your girlfriend/boyfriend?

To me, I decide by the kind of person they are and what they want from me.

In my case, deciding whether I think a person is boyfriend-worthy for me, is just something that I find out over time. I'd rather become friends with this person first, and find out what they want in a relationship. Because, if all that person wants from me are things I'm not looking for, then that person automatically has no chance of going any further than "just friends" in relationship with me. Also, I need to have some sort of connection with that person -- I don't want to be with someone I can't even relate to (there should be some sort of spark or compatibility between me and that person, or else we're most likely not to get along and it'll be over before you know it).
