A. Various, depending on stage of disease. Usually a bone marrow is better for this. However, you may see many abnormal WBCs with vacuoles. Platelets are often decreased, and the RBCs may be hypochromic and microcytic.
B. The Plasmodium parasite is visible within some of the blood cells on the smear.
C. A markedly decreased number of white blood cells on the smear, granulocytes, lymphocytes or both.
D. Decreased platelets on the smear.
