To me the saying of Churchill is inspiring.

“Responsibility is the price of greatness.” ----Winston Churchill

    ****************************************************************************************************

Some of the other inspired sayings on ‘Responsibility’ by many other eminent scholars!

“It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.”

“You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say”

“Freedom is the will to be responsible to ourselves”

“It is the responsibility of leadership to provide opportunity, and the responsibility of individuals to contribute.”

“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more”

“If you want children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders.”

“The willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life is the source from which self-respect springs.”

“People think responsibility is hard to bear. It's not. I think that sometimes it is the absence of responsibility that is harder to bear. You have a great feeling of impotence.”

“You can delegate authority, but not responsibility.”

“We have the Bill of Rights. What we need is a Bill of Responsibilities.”

“The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant.”

My definition is probably a long way from the text book definition of responsibility.

    It is:

To live in innocence and freedom. To care for our home the Earth and to care for all the living creatures who inhabiit it.

  • FRIEND,

responsibility , bhaadyata, changes from one condition or phase to another condition. From one age to another age.

As a son/daughter they have responsibilities to respect the parents, elders and teachers and must study well and behave with good character and conduct. The respect and poojya bhaava towards parents, guru must be there till the end of life.

As he/she marries (suppose) then the responsibility towards wife/husband are their responsibilities change , towards each other, towards children, towards relatives and other members of society.

Similarly as you grow you get different responsibilities.

So probably we may define the responsibility as the '' act you have to do perform , that are legitimately correct and useful to them to make them progress well''

But Kartavyam is different. This is what you are expected to do under whatever conditions you are..

A Brahmachaari , on waking up is bound by Kartavyam , to immediately finish the nature calls and take bath and do Sandhyavandanam. This is his VIDHI( Kartvyam daiva Maahnikam)

This is his responsibility...come what may.

    Rights are different,Responsibilities are different.

    Dharmas are different.

kartavyamas are different and are noble ones .

    I feel so
