句子是
Karen was busy to study for her exams.
請問study要變成過去式嗎? 之前有人跟我說要卻也有人說不要

忙著一件事應該要說
be busy (in) doing something
=>Karen was busy studying for her exams.
也就是說後面要加Ving
因為busy這個字比較特殊的關係，不可以接 to
不過基本上你說的是對的
to 是不定詞，後面接原型動詞
但是也有少數特例

這句話語意本身很不清楚. 如果漏掉了一個too字:
Karen was TOO busy to study for her exam則意思變成
Karen 忙的連準備考試的時間都沒有.

這倒不一定 不過to +V-R的機會會比較多
to 加原形表目的或表狀態
如原題:Karen was busy to study for her exams.
此處表目的,表示十分忙於study for exam
舉其他例子:Mike is too old to swim.
此處則是表狀態Mike 太老了以致不能游泳
另外也是有to 後面放原形的
那是to 做介係詞時
舉一個common的例子:be used to後面就是接Ving阿

但是這句
Karen was busy to study for her exams.
應更正為 Karen was busy studying for her exams.
因為 be busy (in) Ving
省略了介詞 in 所以要加Ving
to後面也不一定都是加原型動詞
有些 to 為介系詞 (要是搞不清楚就多多查字典吧~)
但是我從來沒有看過 to 後面有加過去式
所以要分清楚助動詞和介詞的差別~
