    There are basically three types;

    -->"Normal" action

    -->"slow" action

    -->A mixture of the two

    The are several manufacturers of insulin, including Eli lilly, Sanofi Aventis, and Norvodisk. ALL of these manufacturers make high quality products, and all of the product from these manufacturers are safe when used properly.

    ALL of these product are made using Recombinant DNA (rDNA) technology (genetic engineering) There is almost NO insulin made any more using cow and pig pancreases, and the little bit that is made is usually used for veterinary purposes.

    The CHEAPEST brand will depend on the pharmacy you use, and your insurance plan. Shop around. Check with the pharmacist to see which brand he carries, and what price he charges. TYPICALLY, insulin is about $50-$60 for a 10mL vial.

    However, the DOSAGES differ from brand to brand. ONLY THE DOCTOR can tell you how much insulin to inject, and you CANNOT change brands without consulting your doctor FIRST.

    of course, insulin purchase requires a prescription from your doctor, so you will need to work with your doctor concerning which brands are available in your pharmacies, and which brands the doctor prefers to use.
