Bryan, I hate to say this but I (really) mean you well and hope you'll take my advice. I think it's polite of you to wear perfume and sorry to be blunt, it smells pungent somehow. I don't what's wrong; you may be wearing too much of it (and I think it's why). By the way, why don't you try out a new perfume? It could suit you better and make you even more charming!
What if he misunderstood you?
Bryan, I think you have misunderstood me. I'm neither criticizing men wearing perfume nor complaining about your perfume. It's just a piece of well-meaning advice of mine. I know it's a matter of opinion that some may dislike perfume, but I'm never sort of fussy person. I hope you understand I really didn't mean any harm.

The best way is to say that you are allergic to fragrance.
A lot of Americans are allergic to fragrance and sensitive to the smell.
This way, it will not hurt his feeling.

I and my colleague have frequently told people that their perfume were too strong and we were allergic to the strong scent.
People do get sick from the fragrance. It is very common in the US and he would be able to understand.
