Would this be considered 2 sentences?

Next week I will put the raspberries in the freezer and after that I will start the rest of the cooking.

Shouldn´t two sentences be the following:

Next week I will put the raspberries in the freezer. After this I will start the rest of the cooking.

The first example is a COMPOUND SENTENCE.

    The second is two sentences.

The difference is that the first example is ONE sentence with a conjunction (and) where the two sentences are separated by a period, double space, and a capital letter.

The first is a COMPOUND SENTENCE comprised of (by definition) two INDEPENDENT CLAUSES. That's what a compound sentence IS.

No, it shouldn't be two sentences. The first is grammatically correct.
