for the most part, i agree with scruffycat. i think it may refer to a relationship that the singer once had. and in this relationship, the guy is too shallow too see the real her because he only sees her looks, her "flimsy surface". he will never be able to communicate on a level deeper than that, and he will never be able to see that she is more than he needs, more than he's ever wanted in a woman.

she likes this guy, And he likes how she looks and when she flirts and kinda likes her but she can't spill her heart and all that she has, because he doesn't really seem to want to see how great she can be, and doesnt listen to the things she finds important about herself.
