Stickam/Video Help NOW!!?

I have a apple laptop with the built-in camera yet every time I try and use it my camera won't work. For instance I'm trying to go on stickam with my friend and my face won't show up. It's all just black and I don't know how to fix my camera to make it work. Help please!
